Rob was the founding CEO and is the current President and CSO of Molecular You Corporation. Molecular You was spun out of the Personalized Medicine Initiative (PMI) which Rob co-founded with leading scientists and clinicians in Canada to develop the framework and technologies to bring personalized medicine into healthcare practice. As the Chief Operating Officer of the PMI, Rob supported the establishment of six new companies, of which Rob was co-founder of three of them, including Molecular You.. He helped raise funding for all of them and has been at the forefront of developing the framework and technologies to bring personalized medicine into healthcare practice. Backed by his expertise in molecular diagnostics, molecularly targeted drug discovery and development, biochemistry and regulatory compliance, Rob has also been involved in leading drug discovery and development projects at Sanofi, Xenon, Neuromed and CDRD. Rob received extensive training in the molecular mechanisms of endocrinology while completing his Ph.D. at the University of Alberta and Harvard Medical School and Post-Doctoral Fellowships at Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto and IGBMC, Strasbourg, France. In addition to Rob’s scientific accomplishments, he has been involved in the raising of more than $37M in funding. Rob is also co-founder of GenXys Health Care Systems, Personalized Biomarkers Incorporated, Mesentech Corporation and Novobind.
Gene has spent his career operating at the forefront of emergent technologies. He brings over 20 years of experience translating creative ideas into innovative products and business innovations — developing breakthrough products in Internet of Things (IoT), healthcare, and wearable technology sectors.
His superpower is fostering collaborative, high performing cultures by empowering teams and individuals to share ideas, experiment, and iterate. As a result, he has built and led multiple successful technology teams in both startup and complex corporate environments.
While at J&J, he built and led a large global engineering team tasked with launching transformational Internet of Things (IoT) platforms that spanned cloud, mobile, big data, analytics, sensors, and devices. This service delivered multiple new product lines and new business models across different sectors
Prior to that, Gene co-founded and led a startup specializing in sensor technologies for mobile, wearable, and IoT devices, which pioneered the use of MEMS sensors for activity tracking and gesture recognition. Gene holds multiple technology patents and numerous awards in mobile innovation.
Chief Informatics Officer, Co-founder
David holds a Ph.D. from Yale (1991) and is a Professor in the Departments of Biological Sciences and Computing Science at the University of Alberta. He is also a senior research officer and the director of the Nano Life Science program at the Canadian National Research Council’s National Institute for Nanotechnology. From 2006-2009, David led the “Human Metabolome Project” (HMP), a multi-university, multi-investigator project that cataloged all of the known metabolites in human tissues and bio-fluids. Using advanced methods David and his colleagues identified or found evidence for more than 8500 endogenous metabolites. The methods and ideas developed for the HMP have helped lay the foundation for a number of clinical metabolomics projects currently being pursued in his lab. David has published more than 40 papers in the field of metabolomics and currently directs the Metabolomics Innovation Centre.
